The Internal Affairs Unit (IA) is responsible for the investigation, coordination and/or control of all matters involving the internal integrity of the Henry County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO). Internal Affairs plays a vital part in the preservation of professional conduct within the Agency and is responsible for monitoring the relationships between the community and the HCSO with the intention of maintaining mutual trust.

Darren Newton is a 30-year Law Enforcement Officer. As a member of the Dekalb County Police Department, he began his career as a patrolman and rose to the rank of Captain. His tenacity and leadership allowed him to flourish in Law Enforcement, being assigned as a Vice Detective, Youth and Sex Crimes Sergeant, a CALEA Sergeant, a Lieutenant, Section Commander, and an Assistant Commander. Additionally, he served as a Special Agent with the United States Coast Guard Reserve and Interim Chief for the Lithonia Police Department.
